Chrome OS: Our future desktop experience

January 2010 by admin

What will the world be like when the Chrome OS finally arrives?

Similiar to the growing success of Android, I think the launch of the Chrome OS will quickly reset the state of the industry.

Basically, it will change the world and here’s why:

  1. Unlike past attempts at “alternative operating systems”, Chrome is backed by a company with $23 billion in sales (MSFT has $56 billion). It’s not going away.
  2. 7 second boot times will be the norm; so will cloud computing. MS can’t compete.
  3. Freed from the useful,  but dated concept of the “Windows OS”,  the speed of change in the world of computing will accelerate, massively.

The staff at ITWorld.com have an interesting article talking about the future of desktop computing. Chrome is the centerpiece of the article.

Especially enjoyable is their quote “Remember when we all had to have landlines for phone service? We may someday look at our desktop PCs of today and think of them in the same way.”

In other words, “Good bye Microsoft” or “All your base are belong to us”.
