Chrome is dead?

RIP Chrome

Is Google’s Chrome browser “flat-lining” as John Brandon at Computerworld says or have things simply calmed down to normal while Google works quietly at just following their own master plan?

What used to be a flash of new articles, posts and reports about Chrome each day have significantly faded off in the last few weeks, but as posted yesterday, visits to www.chromevoice.com continue to grow and so do the percentage of visitors using Chrome.

After looking and watching and looking some more, I think Google continues to operate in their own world, simply following their long term plan, one that has clear objectives, yet leaves the implementation up to the really smart people on the Chrome team (and of course open source contributors).

Remember the announcement of Android last year? After a bit the hype died down, but Google kept working on it and now it’s going to be released next month.

Pundits who call Chrome to be dying now will surely be eating crow come this time next year.

Wanna bet?

Chrome Usage: Did 90% of Last Week’s “tire kickers” come back for more?

The world is now looking at how the browser market share of Chrome is changing week to week.

Reports are coming in that Chrome usage dropped since last week.

Gregg Keizer writes in Computerworld that users who originally abandoned IE and Firefox are now returning citing Network Applications report that of the 40,000 sites it tracks, this week showed Chrome’s share to be 0.77% of visitors versus last week’s number of 0.85%.

This means 0.08% less Chrome browser visits to the 40k sites.

Doesn’t sound like much to me, but I don’t discount the report. Clearly a huge number of people got excited about Chrome when it first came out and now that they’ve tried it, 10% decided to go back to IE or Firefox.

Another way to look at it is that 90% of the people who tried it during the previous week are still using it now.

It will be interesting to watch the market share as the weeks progress.

Chrome Browser Share: Certified at 2%

WebTrends Analytics certified that 2% of the visitors to telegraph.co.uk used the Google Chrome browser.

(”telegraph.co.uk” is the website for Britain’s highest selling news paper, The Daily Telegraph)

This number is larger than the number of visitors using Netscape, Mozilla, Opera and other browsers.

Is Safari losing market share to Chrome?

Safari wasn’t mentioned, but if you read what Greg Keizer reports in Computerworld, Chrome isn’t stealing market share from Safari.
